The timer went off the day you were born. If it’s true your days are numbered, then the countdown is in progress. Whether conscious or unconscious, the clock is ticking down in the background.
How does that land with you?
Is your soul screaming, “Carpe Diem! Seize the day!”? – OR – Is your mind offended, resistant, and indignant? Perhaps it is screaming, “I am fine. I am content. I don’t need to prove anything.”
Now, maybe you’re thinking, “But feeling content is a good thing. Whatever could be wrong with that?”
There’s a big difference between contentment and complacency.
A contented mind accepts the reality of one’s situation without complaint or resentment. Contentment means you work on the things you can change and accept the things you can’t, without giving in to discouragement. It means refusing to let circumstances steal your joy.
The complacent mind, on the other hand, settles with a “good enough” or “that’ll do” mentality. It means being satisfied with mediocrity, with no real aspirations to do and be more. Complacency is very dangerous but very common.
The complacent mind is stuck.
-
It is offended by a challenge.
-
It is resistant to change.
-
It is indignant and annoyed by what it perceives is unfair treatment.
In this state of mind, what is possible is completely shut down.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s really important to be grateful for what you have, who you have, and the grace you experience in the present moment. However, those things are the reason you are on the hook to lean into what is possible.
Step back and look at what you have.
You have 24 hours in each day. While some of that time is captive to your obligations, I know that you have time to invest in what is possible.
-
The powerful question is: What are you investing your time in?
You have energy in your body. If you are breathing and your heart is beating, you have energy. This energy can spark and ultimately fuel a possibility into a probability. The start may be slow, you may need to tend the fire, but the energy is there — if you take sacred care to tend it.
-
The powerful question is: How are you tending your inner fire?
